Recommendations

Your RUF watch has been made with the utmost care and fulfils every requirement that you place on a top-class Swiss watch in terms of quality and precision. It has undergone various stages of adjustment and testing, to grant you many happy hours with your new timepiece. We recommend that you follow the instructions below so that it keeps functioning well for years to come.

Recommended Service Intervals

Like all micro-mechanical precision instruments, a watch needs regular servicing to ensure that it works perfectly. We cannot specify the frequency of this work since it depends entirely on the model, the climate and the owner’s individual care of the watch. We recommend that all watches have a regular maintenance check approximately every two years and a full service approximately every five years.

Service Center

We recommend that you contact an approved RUF service centre or authorized RUF retailer. They not only have the tools and apparatus needed to carry out the work and the necessary checks professionally, they can also guarantee that the work will be performed in accordance with RUF’s strict quality standards.

Batteries

Empty quartz watch batteries should be changed immediately in order to avoid leakages of the battery that can damage the movement.

Temperature

Avoid exposure to temperatures greater than 60°C (140°F), or below 0°C (32°F). Also avoid exposure to sudden changes in temperature, such as putting the watch in extremely cold water after prolonged exposure to the sun.

Magnectic Fields

Avoid placing your watch on loudspeakers or refrigerators or other similar devices. These devices generate powerful magnetic fields that can affect the precision of your watch.

Shocks

Different types of shocks - whether chemical, thermal, physical, magnetic or other - can affect your watch. Take care to avoid them.

Chemical Products

Avoid direct contact with solvents, detergents, perfumes, cosmetics etc., since they may damage the bracelet, case or gaskets.

Crown / Chronograph push-pieces

After every adjustment or winding check that the crown is pushed-back in its normal position to help protect the watch from water damage. Do not operate chronograph pushers under water in order to prevent water entering the mechanism.

Bracelets, Casings

Avoid contact with detergents, solvents, fragrances and cosmetics, as they may damage the bracelet or the casing. Diligence in this regard will prevent premature ageing of the material as well as discoloration.

Leather Straps

Avoid contact with detergents, solvents, fragrances and cosmetics, as they may damage the leather. Avoid contact with water and constant moisture to prevent the deformation (and certain discoloration) of the leather. To prevent fading, keep the strap out of prolonged
direct sunlight.

Water-resistance

Each RUF watch has been tested using the most technologically up to date equipment on water resistance. However, the water-resistance can be affected by a shock to the crown, the ageing of gaskets (for example, due to the action of chemical products), etc. When a battery change is required, make certain the gaskets are inspected properly to ensure the integrity of the timepiece to guarantee water resistance. If you notice condensation in your watch, send it immediately to one of our service centers. The water-resistance of your watch is indicated on the case back.

Five basic rules for maintaining the water-resistance of your watch:

1. Have your watch checked regularly by an authorized RUF service point.
2. Do not operate the crown when the watch is under water.
3. Rinse your watch with fresh water after any immersion in saltwater.
4. Dry your watch whenever it gets wet with a soft towel.
5. Have the water-resistance of your watch checked by an authorized RUF
service point each time the case is opened.

Date-settings Mechanism

Never adjust the date between nine o’clock (21:00) in the evening and three o’clock (03:00) in the morning, as this may cause damage to the date-setting mechanism.

Cleaning your watch

Before cleaning, always ensure that the crown is pushed-back in the wearing position. Clean with soapy water and rinse well. Dry with a soft, non-abrasive cloth (preferably, cotton or microfiber).
